Alice Carlson was founded by a group of educators and parents with the common goal to create a learning and social community for their children.<font style="mso-spacerun: yes">&#160;</font> As a result of their efforts, each child at Alice Carlson enjoys the privilege of learning within a framework of cooperation between family, community, and school.</p>
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">Goal</b>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">We strive to provide a community with parents, teachers, administrators, and others aligned for the goal of allowing each child to succeed.</p>
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">The Contract</b>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Upon enrolling your child, you will be asked to sign a Parent Participation Contract, pledging to complete the annual minimum commitment, and complete a survey of your skills and interests for getting involved.</p>
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">Required Hours</b>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Alice Carlson needs full, active participation by the families of every student. The <u>minimum</u> volunteer commitment is 20 hours.<font style="mso-spacerun: yes">&#160;</font></p>
<strong>Submitting Hours</strong>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Each family records their hours and may submit it to the office on the form sent home.The PTA VP of Parent Involvement tracks the hours spent and hours needed, and the Classroom Coordinators can help families learn about jobs where help is needed.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Family involvement in Alice Carlson provides a quantity and quality of individualized learning and enrichment activities that encourage our children to experience success, high levels of self esteem, cooperative problem solving, and respect for each other.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Volunteers bring rich resources that can not usually be duplicated by the professional staff.<font style="mso-spacerun: yes">&#160;</font> These span a wide range of knowledge and skill and parents are encouraged to actively seek out how they can best assist the school.<font style="mso-spacerun: yes">&#160;</font> The active and cooperative participation of all individual families is the lifeblood of our open, alternative school program.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Opportunities exist and skills are needed both in the classroom with the children and in committee and leadership areas.<font style="mso-spacerun: yes">&#160;</font> Parents often start the first years predominantly in the classroom and serving on committees, and progressing toward more coordination and leadership time with passing years.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Families are also encouraged to attend at-school parent education meetings, selected off-site education and conferences, and meetings of the School Advisory Council.<font style="mso-spacerun: yes">&#160;</font> Child care is provided at many of these meetings.</p>
